Biscane Pina Colada Mocktail

Pina Colada Mocktail Recipe

When it comes to tropical cocktails, nothing really compares to the pina colada. This blended iced cocktail works well for relaxing at the beach, enjoying a sunny day in the backyard, or having a party with friends. Best of all, the flavor and enjoyment of this beverage don't necessarily have to come from alcohol. By using Biscane rum alternative from Seir Hill, you can get all the taste with none of the regret.

So, with that in mind, let's get our blenders ready and learn how to make a non-alcoholic pina colada.

A Brief History of the Pina Colada Cocktail

It's no secret that the pina colada is inherently tied to tropical paradise, and that's partly because of where it was invented - the Caribe Hilton in Puerto Rico. An aspiring bartender named Ramon Monchito Marrero whipped up this cocktail in 1954, and he would personally serve it to all his patrons for over 35 years.

It didn't take long for the pina colada to make its way to the mainland, where it became a mainstay of bars and taverns around the world. As with the margarita, this cocktail is almost universally beloved, thanks to its sweet and fruity taste and mild buzz. In fact, the pina colada became so famous that the island of Puerto Rico honored it (and Mr. Marrero) by naming it the official cocktail of the territory.

While the initial proclamation came in 1978, Puerto Rico put it in writing for the drink's 50th anniversary in 2004. Governor Sila Maria Calderon gave the Caribe Hilton an official document so that the hotel may hold onto this honor for decades and centuries to come. If you're going to visit Puerto Rico, be sure to come on July 10th, which is recognized as Pina Colada Day on the island.

What You'll Need to Make a Non-Alcoholic Pina Colada

Because the pina colada is such an iconic cocktail, you need unique ingredients to make it work. Chances are you don't have coconut cream or pineapple juice on hand (unless you love this beverage), so you'll need to make a trip to the store before whipping up a batch.

Also, while the traditional pina colada is blended, you can try it on the rocks for a lighter and creamier version. That said, there's something so satisfying about sipping on an iced mocktail on a hot day. Plus, blending the ingredients makes it easier to produce larger batches so you can share with friends and family on a special occasion.

Finally, while it may be easier to use a pre-made pina colada mixer, it's not as delicious as the real deal. There's something magical that happens when blending fresh ingredients that you can't replicate with a store-bought counterpart. Plus, mixers often have extra preservatives and artificial flavoring, so it pales in comparison to what you get with these ingredients.

Ingredients For Pina Colada Mocktail:

  • 1 ounce coconut cream
  • 1 ounce heavy cream
  • 6 ounces fresh pineapple juice
  • ½ cup crushed ice
  • 2 ounces Biscane™

How to Make a Pina Colada Alcohol-Free Drink

Because this recipe makes 12 ounces feel free to double or triple it to serve other guests. That said, blenders can only be so big, so you'll be relatively limited in how much you can make at once. Also, it's usually not ideal to reuse the same blender without rinsing out the inside first. Otherwise, the measurements will be off, and the imbalance could affect the taste of the mocktail.

Finally, if you're really trying to get a taste of the tropics, we recommend pouring your beverage into a Hurricane glass because it will look so much better when you add your garnishes. If you have some cocktail umbrellas, they can only complete the ensemble. The only other option that can capture the spirit of Puerto Rico is to drink your colada out of a hollowed-out coconut.

Biscane Pina Colada Variations

For our money, the best variation of the pina colada is to drink it on the rocks. If you go this route, we suggest mixing your ingredients in a cocktail shaker rather than your glass. Then, strain it over ice and add your garnish. A liquid version of a pina colada feels almost blasphemous, but it's an experience you won't soon forget.
